I'm a fan of Scott Kelby. I love his sense of humor and the way he writes, and he's one of the most dynamic speakers I've had the pleasure of hearing. Oh, and his books totally kick butt, too.
I have a couple of his books for digital photographers, but I wasn't going to buy his new Photoshop CS3 book since I can usually find a lot of the same tips online. Then I received a very site sitemail from Mazdaguy, and I realized I had to have the book.
Why? Because one of my photos was used in it.
:-D
I wasn't able to make it out to the bookstore until this weekend, and I was so excited to see that Barnes & Noble had a copy of the book in stock. I quickly flipped through the pages and it didn't take long for me to see Dr. Bob's smiling face staring back at me.
When I first heard about the in use I was a little nervous. Afterall, the book is about how to fix digital files in Photoshop. LOL But the chapter using Dr. Bob is about extracting a subject from a white background and dropping them into another photo. So Dr. Bob has several pages dedicated to him, and I have a feeling he'll be over the moon about that. I know I was. :-D
But you know what's even better than seeing your photo in a book? Seeing Copyright iStockphoto.com/Kelly Talele right next to it. I did not expect to receive the photo credit, so that just made my day. I think this might be the coolest in action I've found to date. So many, many thanks to Will for taking the time to send me a note about it. I never would have known otherwise.
There were lots of iStock images used throughout the book so you all should check it out the next time you're in a bookstore. Oh, and just in case you don't know Dr. Bob allow me to introduce you:
Go, Dr. Bob! :-D
I'm really excited about the success of the Dr. Bob image. And the success of that whole series overall.
The image has been in my iStock portfolio for almost six months, and it had its 700th download today. Woo hoo!! I'm surprised I haven't seen it in use more often, but I'm hoping I will come across an "in action" a few more times so I can share it with the model.
Go, Dr. Bob, go!! Can't wait for the next color of flames. :)
I finally got around to uploading new material to iStock this morning. I never understood why people had so much trouble processing and uploading images before, but I really do now. LOL Thankfully these shots didn't need much work in the way of processing. It helps to have a beautiful model, a fabulous MuA, and correct lighting. :-D
We are experiencing WINTER STORM 2007 here in Atlanta, so it's a fairly dreary day outside. No snow...just freezing rain. Although I am seeing the occasional snowflake outside my window. My son desperately wants it to snow...not so school will be canceled, but so he can go outside and build Frosty the Snowman. I asked him if he had a hat and he responded, "He can wear my Blues Brothers hat!" Indeed he can. He's so cute. :-)
Because of iStock's contributor agreement, if I opt out of the Vox deal I am then opting out of ALL other promotional and reselling opportunities. I really think that's kind of lousy, but hey...I suppose according to the agreement iStock didn't need to give us a way to opt out in the first place. So for that I am grateful evevn if that seems to contradict their Exclusivity Agreement terms. But that's no longer an issue for me, is it? ;-)
This week started off pretty lousy, but today has been a really good day. My daughter is a bit under the weather, though, so her stuffy head has turned into my achey head. It's hard to see her so sick because I can't do much for her. :-(
Things have settled a bit on the photography front. I am shooting family portraits this Saturday for a few families, and then I'm working with a model next Saturday to start her portfolio. I'm really looking forward to that one, and I'm hoping she's open to shooting some stock while we're at it.
And speaking of stock (again), this has been my best month ever over at iStock yet again. I turned silver, had my first extended license sale, had another image reach flames, and crossed the 400 download mark for one month. I am still amazed when one month outsells the previous one, but it's really kind of cool.
It only took three years to get here, but any minute now I should have a nice, new, shiny silver canister over at iStock. I hit 2500 downloads some time last night while I was sleeping. And the really incredible part of this tale is I was 40 away from hitting that magic number...so someone was making a little mischief last night fully knowing I was off in La La Land where I could not kick his ever-generous ass for downloading 39 of my images. :-D
It was an incredibly sweet gesture, though, so I couldn't stay mad much longer than a fraction of a second. :-) Thank you, you sweet PITA. :-D
*SMOOSH*
In other good news, Dr. Bob has crossed over the 200 downloads mark. Go, Dr. Bob! GO!!
With the exception of a dear friend feeling under the weather, today has been a pretty good day. :)
So. Two friends of mine have a bet about one of my images on iStock. It's Dr. Bob. They are betting on when this image will hit flames. It's at 77 downloads right now and it will get flames when it hits 100. So if you're bored, or have some iStock credits that are about to expire, won't you consider adopting a small Dr. Bob? Just so one of my friends will have to eat crow. :-D
October is my favorite month out of the year. Hands down. Fall has finally begun here in Atlanta, and I absolutely love seeing the leaves change color. Some of them will turn the most brilliant red and orange, and the skies are so blue at times it almost hurts to look at them.
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, too (a close second to Christmas), so I love dragging out my orange and black tubs of decorations. Apparently my son shares my love for Halloween decorations because he has been bugging me to put them out for the last week. LOL It's hard to be annoyed with him for that. ;-)
I love fall clothes, I love fall cooking, and I just love so many other things about this month. October is simply perfect. :-)
It's also turning out to be my best month over at iStock by quite a bit! I've been uploading more lately, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. My downloads are actually up by 82% right now. :-D It's turning out to be a very good month. And Dr. Bob now has 36 downloads!! He's outselling every other shot in my portfolio. I think that's pretty freaking cool.
I also stumbled across another one of my new uploads in action. It's this shot of Tra that I took at our first photo shoot:
I was Googling my name last night, and the designer who used that image was kind enough to give me a photo credit. Thank you! Here's the site where I saw the image in use:
MIMI Lifestyle
I think it looks great and hope the model does too. :-)
So, yes...October is shaping up to be a pretty good month. I have my first wedding this weekend, too, so wish me luck!!
I'm on my way to that lovely silver canister! I crossed the 2000 download mark today, and I am so excited about that milestone. It's only taken three years to get here, but I have no one to blame but myself. A teeny tiny portfolio of nature shots does not a stock portfolio make. :-D
Dr. Bob is kicking some serious stock booty, too! He now has 18 downloads. I'm thrilled it's doing so well and really hope I get to see it in action. The model is up for a print job this week and I hope he gets that too. :-)
I have more exciting news, but I will come back and post that in a bit! Gotta dump some images off my camera first. ;-)
I'm really happy to see that one of my new uploads from my recent model shoot is doing well on iStock. I mean, it's doing well for one of my portfolio shots. :-D
Dr. Bob already has 12 downloads, and it's only been in my portfolio for a week. I don't think any of my other images have sold quite this quickly, so I'm really excited about it.
This is one case where I hope to see the image in action so I can pass it along to the model. I really think he has a great look for stock and will be setting up another shoot with him some time in the near future.
I have more in the Dr. Bob series that I need to upload. I just haven't had time! Maybe I will do that today. LOL
